College advice
It’s okay to forget this advice, you’ll probably learn it anyway the typical way: through experience.
Have fun!
If you want to be efficient in completing your problem sets, go to office hours with the TAs. If you want to really learn the material you should first try the problems yourself, then work with other students, then finally if you still don’t get it: ask the TAs or professor.
Recognize that you don’t need to drink to have fun, there’s only a weak correlation between the two.
Networking is just being friendly, including to alumni.
“Don’t be intimidated, just be kind.” This applies to almost any social situation, including job interviews.
Prioritize friendship over romance, generally. Obviously they can coexist, but when there’s conflict, try to make this choice if you can.
Realize that internship applications for the following summer can be required as early as the previous fall or winter sometimes.
Pursue summer internships that reflect either what you might explore career-wise or based on what you want from your college experience, and ideally you find something that overlaps. For example, my first priority was to travel internationally each summer. My second priority was trying out engineering.
